Congress Survey Projects It Will Win Over 140 Seats in Karnataka Polls, Says Shivakumar

According to surveys, the Congress party is expected to win over 140 of the 224 seats up for election in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections, according to party state unit president DK Shivakumar, who also predicted that several sitting BJP legislators will defect to the opposition party in the near future.

After welcoming two former BJP MLAs and its former mayor of Mysuru join the party, he was speaking to reporters.

Three prominent individuals—former Mysuru mayor Purushottam, former Kollegala Legislator G N Nanjundaswamy, and former MLA from Bijapur Manohar Ainapur—left the BJP and joined the Congress today.

Shivakumar further asserted that the BJP had originally intended to call for elections in Karnataka as soon as the results of the 2022 Gujarat election were announced, but had changed its mind.

Former lawmakers are leaving the BJP and joining the Congress. In the coming days, we will also disclose the list of sitting parliamentarians who will be participating; conversations are on in this regard. For the time being, I won't mention any names," Shivakumar added.

He claimed that party officials are accepting the party's ideas and leadership without any restrictions and joining the House.

At the district level, various leaders are joining the party like floods, and several well-known leaders are being inducted here. It is very evident that the general population supports Congress.

"Our study now projects that there will be more over 140 seats, up from our original projection of 136 seats. The shift has started. As we move over the state, we notice it, Shivakumar continued.

Shivakumar also asserted that there were just roughly 50 days left until voting, and that the BJP intended to immediately call for elections following the Gujarat elections in 2022. He added that they had scheduled meetings with officials and chosen dates, but the process is now being delayed.

"The reason is BJP considers that the higher the number of days they get, it will be favourable for them, hence they are making such measures. Daily short-term tenders are being held, advances are being mobilised, and money is being released hastily without being scrutinised, he said, adding that the House would consider the issue and take a position to be relayed to the government.

Shivakumar asserted that the Congress is ready for elections, even if they are held right away, and he urged the Election Commission to announce the election dates right away and put an end to the widespread corruption that is now taking place.

When he criticised the Chief Minister for labelling the Congress' promise of 200 units of free power as "bogus," he also challenged him to a debate on any platform.

The leader of the opposition, Siddaramaiah, claimed that the BJP has realised that, due to public awareness, their "Hindutva gimmicks" won't help in this election. He claimed that they are currently using "crillions of ill-gotten money they have accumulated via loot and corruption" to try and win elections and take over.

Additionally, he charged the ruling BJP with seeking to shield its MLA Madal Virupakshappa by failing to arrest Prashanth Kumar M V, whose father was detained by the Lokayukta for accepting bribes.
